Rana Pratap is a synonym to Rajput valor, chivalry and perseverance. He was a stand alone fighter against Mughal aggression and never bent down to any temptation. He was loved by his men and they stood by him in his fight for independence. He lost the Battle of Haldighat to Akbar but did not surrender and continued his combats till the end of his life.

At one time during his long exile in the forests fighting the Moghul forces, Rana Pratap was distressed by the sufferings of his family. His queen slept on the bare ground, ate off leaves and his children often wept through sheer hunger. In despair, the proud Rajput wrote to the Emperor Akbar suing for an honourable peace. This poem reveals the pathetic condition of the great patriot. My mother used to recite it in our childhood........I also did the same for my son.Not only this he recited this poem in school  and got first prize......

  नन्हे  प्यारे कुम्हलाये शिशु को गोदी में  लेकर ,

बोला, " तुम क्यों रोटी हो ? " करुना को करुना देकर ;

अपनी तूतली भाषा में  वो सिसक सिसक कर बोली,

जलती थी भूख तृषा की उसके अन्तेर में हो ली |

"हा छही न जाती हमसे अब आज भूख की ज्वाला,

कल ही छे  भूख लगी थी ,हो लहा ह्लिदय मतवाला 

मान ने घाछों  की लोटी मुझको दी थी खाने को , 

झरने का पानी देकल  बोली थी भग जाने को|

अम्मा छे  दूल यहीं पे, छुखी  लोटी खाती हूँ 

जो पहले छुना चुकी हूँ, वो देसगीत गाती हूँ;

छच कहती हूँ मैंने तो, दो चाल कवल खाया था

कुछ तो बिलाव ले भागा, जो इछी लिए आया था

है कौन छा ऐसा छत्रु,  छेना का नाछ किया है '

हमको, माँ को, तुम छबको ,जिछ्ने वनवाछ दिया है |

एक छोटी छी पैनी छी, तलवाल मुझे भी दे दो ,

मैं उछको माल  भगा दूं ,छन मुझको रन करने दो "

कन्या की ये सुन बातें रो पड़ी अचानक रानी ,

राणा की आँखों से भी अविरल बहता था पानी...........

An Invitation..........

A woman came out of her house and saw three old men with long white beard,sitting in front of the yard. She did not recognise them. The women went out and invited them in. "we do not go into the house together," they replied. "Why is that?" She wanted to know.One of the old man explained, "his name is wealth", pointing out one of his friends,and said pointing one of his another friend, "he is success and I am love", Then he added , "now go in and discuss with your family,which one of us u want in your home?
                          Her husband was overjoyed, "how nice!" and said," let us invite wealth. Let him come and fill our home with love". His wife disagreed, "my dear, why don;t we invite success?" Their daughter-in-law gave gave her own suggestion. "Would it not be better to invite love?" The women went out and asked the love to come in and be their guest.
                          Love got up and started  walking towards the house.The other two also sot up and followed him.Surprised the lady,I only invited love,why are you coming in?The old man replied, "wherever love goes, we go with him."

एक पढ़ा-लिखा दंभी व्यक्ति नाव में सवार हुआ। वह घमंड से भरकर नाविक से पूछने लगा, ‘‘क्या तुमने व्याकरण पढ़ा है, नाविक?’’ नाविक बोला, ‘‘नहीं।’’ दंभी व्यक्ति ने कहा, ‘‘अफसोस है कि तुमने अपनी आधी उम्र यों ही गँवा दी!’’ थोड़ी देर में उसने फिर नाविक से पूछा, “तुमने इतिहास व भूगोल पढ़ा?” नाविक ने फिर सिर हिलाते हुए ‘नहीं’ कहा। दंभी ने कहा, “फिर तो तुम्हारा पूरा जीवन ही बेकार गया।“ मांझी को बड़ा क्रोध आया। लेकिन उस समय वह कुछ नहीं बोला। दैवयोग से वायु के प्रचंड झोंकों ने नाव को भंवर में डाल दिया। नाविक ने ऊंचे स्वर में उस व्यक्ति से पूछा, ‘‘महाराज, आपको तैरना भी आता है कि नहीं?’’ सवारी ने कहा, ‘‘नहीं, मुझे तैरना नही आता।’’ “फिर तो आपको अपने इतिहास, भूगोल को सहायता के लिए बुलाना होगा वरना आपकी सारी उम्र बरबाद होने वाली है क्योंकि नाव अब भंवर में डूबने वाली है।’’ यह कहकर नाविक नदी में कूद तैरता हुआ किनारे की ओर बढ़ गया। मनुष्य को किसी एक विद्या या कला में दक्ष हो जाने पर गर्व नहीं करना चाहिए।
